Adopt-a-beehive and make a difference

Looking for a sweet deal? Why not opt to adopt a beehive?

Community Conservation Fund Africa (CCFA) has launched an Adopt-a-beehive initiative in May 2021, in partnership with Honeybee Heroes.

The initiative offers guests staying at a Mantis property and people from all over the world (who can’t visit the continent just yet) an opportunity to make a significant difference to the environment whilst also supporting local communities.

Adopting a hive costs from £100 and includes a personalised adoption certificate, personalised name plaque on one of the CCFA hives and regular hive updates.

The Honeybee Heroes medium-term goal is to set up 1,000 micro-apiaries across South Africa; donating 15 hives, beekeeping suits and basic tools to rural South Africans in need, in order for them to start up their own businesses. Together with Honeybee Heroes, Mantis and CCFA will buy the honey back from the apiarists creating an enterprise.

A beekeeping experience that includes a three-hour edutainment session with a hive tour and lunch at Willowdale Farm is in the works.
