Visit Botswana

Botswana offers the best wilderness experience in Africa. The country is mainly about huge landscapes and deep cultural experiences. Wild animals roam freely in its natural habitat. Be awed by the kavango Delta (the world’s largest intact delta) and the wildlife-rich Chobe Game Reserve or visit the huge Central Kgalagadi Game Reserve or experience the isolation and vastness of the Makgadikgadi Pan.

BOTSWANA’S BUCKET LIST EXPERIENCES

According to Hospitality & Tourism Association of Botswana

SUNSET AND LANDSCAPES The landscape of Botswana is over 70 per cent desert and mostly flat. The sky is huge and pretty. Wait for sunset or sunrise for the amazing changes in hue that give visitors so much pleasure.

GAME DRIVES Botswana offers the chance to view wildlife from an open safari vehicle accompanied by a trained guide. Game drivers are best in the early morning, late afternoon and evening. Some parks offer night game drives. Most animals are active after dark, so night drives can yield awesome sightings.

BIRDWATCHING There are great opportunities for birdwatching, especially in the Okavango Delta and Chobe. Botswana has over 650 bird species, of which 75 per cent can be found in one area.

MOKORO TRIPS Relax and explore the shallow hippo waterways in a traditional mokoro (dugout canoe). With the sound of birdsong and the serenity of the river, a mokoro trip has been described as the ultimate experience in Botswana.

BOAT CRUISES Explore the great Botswana rivers – the Chobe, the Thamalakane in Maun and the Okavango on the delta panhandle – by motor boat.

CULTURAL TOURS For an unforgettable bush experience, walk with traditional trackers who use their ancient knowledge of the wilderness.

ELEPHANT EXPERIENCES Learn about the elephants in the delta by getting up close to the Abu herd in the Okavango Delta. There’s an opportunity to ride these gentle giants – a truly amazing experience.

SELF-DRIVE Drive yourself into the wilderness in a 4×4 vehicle and experience Botswana. Self-drive vehicles are allowed in the game parks, but do not pick anything or leave anything except your footprints.
