Spotted: Great whites in the Cape

Marine Dynamics is excited to report their first great white shark sightings since after lockdown. This conservation focused company recognised their first white shark seen on 1 November, as one that had visited in March 2020.

“The marine biologist onboard every trip takes fin identification images and has an extensive database that has contributed to their many scientific publications on this protected species,” says Marine Biologist Kelly Baker said.

“The estimated 4.5m female has been observed and logged in our system a number of times, the most recent of which was in March this year. We hope to see more of this stunning creature in the near future.”

A second white shark visited the boat on 2 November leaving guests thrilled as to having seen two shark species as the bronze whalers sharks continue to fascinate.

“Shark cage diving is the only monitoring of white sharks in South Africa and as such this activity plays a key role in the knowledge and understanding of this species,” she concludes.
