Africa Travel Week

Love a good podcast?

We hear you! Rather, you’ll hear us and several inspiring speakers in our new Unlock Africa podcast where we bring the news, views, tips and tricks from tourism experts and personalities, sometimes simply sharing a window on their world and Africa’s Tourism Sector.

If you’re new to the podcast scene, you’re in for a real treat. We have a range of inspiring interviews on a variety of topics already on the ATW Connect Platform, as well as podcast platforms like Spotify and Apple Podcasts. Visit the Podcast Page for the full range or search for “Unlock Africa” on your favourite podcast platform.

Here are some of our favourites:

Phaka Hlazo and her love for Africa
Innovator and connector, Phaka Hlazo from Zulu Nomad shares how her love for travel started, why she is passionate about Africa and what the future holds not only for her but the African travel industry.

Tapping into the power of cultural sustainability
Dr Adun Okupe, an expert in sustainability and tourism, shares her interest in behavioural economics to understand decision making as regards leadership for societal change, socio-cultural leadership, tourism and leisure studies and the impacts these have on the sustainable development agenda.

Reignite Africa Finalist: Afrioceans/Shark Warrior Adventures
Dressed as a penguin with a side-kick puppet named Sushi, Jon Monsoon from Shark Warrior Adventures provided insight and information about Cape Town and its endangered African penguins through hosting live, interactive webinars. The campaign offered an engaging online activity, environmental education and an art class suitable for all ages at home during the lockdown.

TV production, hostility and everything in between
What you probably didn’t know about Lesego Majatladi, Managing Director at Latitude Aparthotels and also a board member of FEDHASA Cape, is that he started his career in TV production, not hospitality. But his story about how the skills he acquired from TV actually help in running a hotel is fascinating and you’ll learn how he’s turned his hotel into a success despite pandemic pressures.

Reignite Africa Finalist: Cape Nature
In search of a safe, sustainable and environmentally-friendly holiday during National Alert Level 3, local travellers sought the next escape after being cooped up for so long. Cape Nature launched the #NatureStaycation campaign that presented their reserves as open, safe destinations for those needing to get away.
