Africa Travel Week

I cannot wait to connect with our partners once again!

Introducing Megan Oberholzer. She oversees the Travel, Tourism & Sports Portfolio at Reed Exhibitions Africa which includes the key shows that makeup Africa Travel Week, namely WTM Africa and ILTM Africa

What do you love most about Africa?

I love Africa’s diversity whether it be the landscape (beach, bush, berg) or the people and their cultures (11 official languages!) or the wildlife (from whales in Hermanus to the Big 5 in the Kruger). Africa’s people are filled with passion… they are expressive and proud of showcasing what we have on offer to our visitors… plus our weather is some of the best in the world! And of course, I love the food! The smell of a South African braai makes me feel like I’m well and truly at home.

Where are you heading to in 2021? What adventures await you?

I’m hopefully heading to Canada! We had booked a trip to visit Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver in September 2020 but naturally, we couldn’t travel due to COVID-19. I will also be sure to visit the UK as my sister and nephew are based there. With the lockdowns, we have not been able to see each other in over a year and we usually do an annual visit.

Of course, I will also do something local this year. Sabi River is my favourite place in South Africa so I do want to plan a trip back there with my family.

What are you looking forward to the most regarding Africa Travel Week: Virtual 2021?

I cannot wait to connect with our partners once again! There is something so rewarding about working on an event for a year and then seeing the attendees write business and the incredible energy that it creates. I love meeting new people and reconnecting with those I have not seen in months. And one of my highlights is always seeing my team’s months of hard work come together and the pride they as the event to life.

Who are you looking forward to seeing at the Connect in the City: Live in September?

Definitely the team from our key partner, the Host City of Cape Town. I also look forward to seeing Enver Duminy and his team from Cape Town Tourism who always share the beauty of the Cape through their vibrant campaigns. Others on my list include our partners such as Kelly Smuts from Shimansky, and the entire team from The Vineyard Hotel (Theone Williams, Roy Davies, Lisa Schmidt, Belinda Morrison).
